Dozens of Twin Cities interns had the chance to learn from some of the best in the computer business, Google.

A team from Google's headquarters in California held a training session today for interns with the "Step-up" program.

MINNEAPOLIS - Young minds were insprired by one of the world's most successful companies Saturday. A team from Google stopped by to pass along skills to high school students in Minneapolis.

"With this training, I'm learning more about technology than I ever did before," said Claire McKitrick, a high school student at Roosevelt. "The more I learn, the more it will help me."

Seventy-five students from the city's Step Up program took part in the all-day seminar. The students, all of which are soon-to-be summer interns at companies across the Twin Cities, heard from Google executives about various internet platforms and how to reach customers using technology. The training is a new initiative by Google.

Agosto takes Loppet Office to the “Cloud”

While this has not been the winter for snow, it hasn’t kept the the City of Lakes Loppet office from moving forward in spite of the weather. With the help of Agosto, an IT consulting firm specializing in taking companies to the Cloud, the Loppet has entered a new level of information sharing. Since November, Agosto has worked with the Nordic Ski Foundation to migrate the office email and document tools to Google Apps and to set up a new registration and bar code system to simplify registration at Loppet events. Agosto’s co-founder Irfan Khan has also delivered the personalized event participant videos through his media company QudUp for the past two years for the Loppet events.

Agosto was recently participated in a facilitating a 'round-table' discuss with Google Chairman, Eric Schmidt, and Minneapolis Mayor, RT Rybak. Kim Plahn, President and CFO of Dunn Bros Coffee and a long-standing Agosto client, participated in the discussion. Plahn described how Dunn Bros. has no internal IT staff, and said that shifting to Google [Apps] has helped the company’s 20 corporate employees and 84 coffee shops—most of which are owned by franchisees—operate smoothly, as they don’t need to oversee tech operations in-house. “It lets our owners do what they do best: coffee,” she said.* Dunn Bros, with assistance from Agosto, migrated to Google Apps in 2009. Agosto is Dunn Bros.' IT department; providing Managed Services, Cloud Services and Strategic Services.
