Agosto expedites participant check-in with development of innovative
MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 2, 2012)—Agosto, Inc. (www.agosto.com), a Google Apps premier partner and one of the nation’s oldest and fastest-growing Google Apps and cloud services consulting firms, has created an innovative Google App that streamlines the registration and check-in process for the anticipated 10,000 participants at the 2012 City of the Lakes Loppet February 4- 5. 2012.
An element of Agosto’s ongoing work with for the City of Lakes Nordic Ski Foundation, the custom Google App creates a unique barcode for each participant that’s scanned during the check-in process using volunteers’ smartphones.
“In the past, providing accurate information in a timely manner following the registration cutoff involved a lot of manual work and stress” said Paul Lundberg, development director at Agosto, Inc. “We analyzed and understood their (City of the Lakes Nordic Ski Foundation) frustrations and created an app that reduces manual efforts and expedites the process for everyone.” Leveraging the capabilities within the Google App Engine, Agosto created a registration system that deploys a unique web page for each participant. Once registered, each email address receives a notice with a web link to a page containing event and registration information, including a registration specific bar code that’s used to speed the check-in process. Similar to paperless boarding passes used by airlines, the participant’s barcode is scanned (digitally or printed) at the time of registration.
In prior years, registration support began prior to the registration cutoff date because of thetime-intensive manual work necessary to organize and send individual emails with the correct registration information and then onsite check-in used a printed list process. Additionally, because event registrations might be modified right up until the event registration deadline, nothing could be finalized until the last few days before the event.
“The Google App Engine is the perfect fit given the short deployment timeline and because Loppet’s website is used very intensively for the 3-5 days following the event registration cutoff,” said Lundberg. “Now the organizers can focus their efforts on event details and the overallexperience for participants and spectators, rather than spending hours on registration details.”
